Hi Experts,
I have submitted for TRV for my wife ONLINE as below

Application Filed : 19/Feb/2016 - (17 Days since submission)
Current Status: Open, Medicals Passed and Final Decision : "Not Yet made"

If I check the processing times for paper applications, I see 17 Days and believe the ONLINE applications are much faster than paper applications.
Can somebody please share the current timelines/ Average timelines for Visitor VISA applications currently?

I also heard that any rejections will in general take place within 5-6 Days and if the application is open for a duration longer that, It is going to be mostly approved. Is this correct?

Please share and thanks for your time and help

Thanks

What visa office are you applying to? It varies greatly by visa office.

The best you can know is the information posted on the CIC website regarding processing times. That is an average over the past few months.

Online is not necessarily faster than paper. For example, for TRV extensions (not what you are doing, just an example), online applications currently take 135 days to process while paper applications are taking an average of 110 days. If more people are applying online than on paper, then online applications might take longer.

Also the length of the processing time does not necessarily mean much. Yes, you are likely to get rejected quickly if
1) your application is incomplete (you missed a form or a document)
2) there is an obvious "red flag" that immediately rejects you, e.g. you said something stupid (like that you want to work in Canada, but are applying for a visitor visa), you have no money or job, you were previously kicked out of Canada for doing something illegal, etc.

However this is not certain and there is no rule. An application might take long simply because there a lot of applications. Usually, visa officers don't spend 17 days looking at your application, they just take 15-16 days until they have time to look at your application in detail, and then they make a decision usually in 1-2 days.

As an example: my girlfriend applied for a TRV in August 2015, at that point the processing time on the CIC website was given as 18 days. She got the visa in 10 days, including the mailing time (she did a paper application through a VAC, and the documents were sent to a visa office in another country).

Thanks sokosan and congratulations to your girlfriend for getting TRV approved in time.

The application is applied online from INDIA and I believe it will be processed in one of the VISA offices in INDIA. I am not sure which office will be processing the same.
Is there a way to find out which office in a country will process for an ONLINE application?

There is no information available on where online applications are processed.

You can expect it to be processed by one of the three visa offices in India i.e. New Delhi, Chandigarh or Bangalore

Hope your wife gets her TRV soon :)

Hi I'm pulling my hair right now. I'd planned to be in Canada for Easter but now I'm not sure that's going to happen. Most friends who had applied before had receive their visas within 21 days. I'd read 16 days so I was certain it'd be done within 21. Now the processing time has extended to 35 days. It doesn't look like this will come in before. My itinerary included Easter Church visits and a dinner with the PMI on March 31st. Do you think this will be sufficient grounds for a refusal?

Is it just me or this an intense visa process with so much suspense? Thanks

@papapsi

It can get quite stressful waiting for a TRV decision.

As for the processing times posted on the CIC website, these are only indicative.... the average time taken to process 80% of TRV applications.

The general advice is to plan and apply way in advance. Hope you also submitted a list of tourist places that you'd like to visit/friends and relatives whom you'd like to meet. If this is so then don't worry about the visa office refusing a TRV because you may miss these Easter events

Hope you get your TRV soon :)
