Hi forum,
anyone with some advice would be greatly appreciated... here's the lowdown.
I am a canadian citizen and have been with a mexican citizen for almost 4 years. I was originally in the process
of having her apply for Citizenship in Canada to live with me up there. The immigration officers told me that it would
be better to have her apply in Mexico, as it would allow her to come and go to and from Canada more freely while the
application is in process... However, while down here the new immigration law has passed forcing mexican citizens to require
a visa to enter Canada. The toughest part is that there is absolutely no support for information here, as the embassies and
consulates are no help, and my sister (in Canada) was told that there is "no way" to contact the Canadian officers for help.
So we gave up and decided to have her apply for a temporary resident visa to come up to canada to at the very least
get information on what to do next. (we have barely been apart in 4 years, and i need to go back to Canada soon).
Long story shorter, we are trying to do everything completely by the book, and follow every rule we are told. She applied
for the visa and today we got a letter back notifying us of the rejection.
the grounds for the rejection were:
"length of stay and purpose of visit not meeting requirements": included were a copy of the itinerary and purchased online plane tickets, and a full page letter explaining why she is coming to Canada
"limited employment prospects in country":
included were many copies of employment letters and a detailed job summary, she does not work in mexico, but for Royal Caribbean
"personal assets and financial status": on Cruise ships you are paid in cash, and being 25 years old, she lives with her parents, as
most Mexican citizens her age.
Anyways, the case says closed, but i am a bit upset. As these cases cannot be contested, it is obvious that the information (there
was a lot of it) was not properly considered. Most obviously that the length of stay was questioned when the return plane ticket
information whas included.
any advice would be appreciated as we are dumbstruck by the rejection.
thanks in advance
matt
