TRV Rejected: Reason: Asked to apply for Work Permit Instead.

Got Rejected.Reason for Rejection: The Visa Officer asked me to apply for Work Permit as I was not eligible for TRV based on information Provided.

Background on application:
Stay of travel : 2 months
Purpose: Attend meetings and interact with stake holder for project related activities and determine a road map for the entire next year.

Submitted a letter of invitation from client and letter from current employer that i have job here in India and travelling to Canada only for 2 months for project related activities

Can anybody help me in understanding why the Officer thinks I need Work permit and what are the next steps for me .( PS: based on the Canada immigration website I am not eligible for work permit in this scenario)

Apply WP as per your visa office instruction.

But as per CIC.gc.ca I need to attach proof of employment in Canada which I don't have.I have just invitation letter from client for two months .

There is some serious miscommunication or misunderstanding by visa officer.


With similar documentation my colleague received TRV 3 months back

My Company has decided to re apply for TRV based on recommendation from client travel desk .

Will be attaching one letter explaining why it is TRV and not a work permit

IMO, two possible reasons why your TRV was refused and you have been advised to apply for a Work Permit:
1. As a business visitor, one can remain in Canada for up to 6 months.... however, a business stay beyond a few days/couple of weeks could appear as working illegally

2. Perhaps, you and your Canadian client have not explained why you must visit for 2 months.... an invitation letter is not good enough.


You must submit a broad day-by-day itinerary for your visit.... along with other documentation/evidence of how your offshore project work is related to/depends on your Canada visit


If the visa office has advised you to apply for a WP then reapplying for a TRV will not work

Now the client has decided to reduce the stay for couple of weeks(3 weeks) and will provide day by day intenary including reason on how the travel will be beneficial for project success.

Applying for work permit is not possible as project duration is 3 months and we have hard deadline of 3 months( work permit processing time is 2 months)

Let see what happens.

You must also include adequate evidence on your individual role in the project until now + why someone else cannot be deputed to meet the client instead of you + evidence to show your India office will be paying for your visit

For financial documents, is bank statement enough.

My company would be showing its account statement and will provide letter stating that it will take care of my expense as I am going on official business

Even though your employer will provide a company bank statement..... you can submit your personal 6 months' bank statements + 6 months' salary slips + employment letter + 2 years ITRs + proofs of any personal financial investments (FDs, RDs, mutual funds, shares, EPF, PPF, etc)..... so that all financial aspects tie in properly = a strong financial situation of yourself

How is your employer going to reimburse your expenses? Do you have a daily overseas allowance x number of days OR total reimbursement against all expenses?
Has your employer made provisional flight and hotel bookings?
Do you have a company credit card?
Will your employer purchase Forex (currency) in your name?
Or will your employer buy Forex cards/Travelers Cheques in your name?

Your employer must explain this too in the letter about paying for your visit... and wherever possible, do submit evidence

Linked my paper application online and was surprised to see that status= closed and decision="This application has been approved"

Hope it's Visa approval.Will go tomm to collect passport at vfs
