TRV on new passport

Hi,
My mother has a muti entry visa valid till March 2014(Passport Expiry date: March end 2014). She was with me since July 2012 and I applied for an extension in Nov 2012 but due to a emergency in the family she had to leave in December 2012. I have got the extension approved now allowing her stay till Mar 2014. As she will be coming back to Canada next month, I have a few questions which I am not sure of...

1) When she enters Canada does she need to inform the officials about the extension?

And the other thing is as I am pregnant to be on a safer side I asked her to get a new passport so that I can try for a new visitor visa on it, if required. As I can't work at my present condition, I want to give a termination notice to my job but would like to apply for her TRV on the new passport before taking that step.

2) So can I apply for her new TRV even before she lands into the country or will I have to wait for her to come?
4) In case she is denied a new TRV, will the previous one which is valid till Mar 2014 become void or is it still valid?

I would appreciate if you could spend a few minutes to know your input
Thanks
Jennifer

The extension is only valid if the person is in Canada

1) She can, but they will stamp the regular 6 months or she could request officer till March 2014 ( 1 year has been on Airports ) and explain what happened but the extension will not be valid IMO
2) New TRV can only be applied when current expires

So in hindsight, if officer gives till 2014 at airport, you can request another ext before that date but then once that expire, she has to leave and then apply new trv from, home country

Hi user,
Thanks for your quick response.
I was not sure of if the extension will be valid... but the official whom I spoke to said that my mom can show a copy of it to the officer.... only thing is she can't re-enter Canada using the same. But as she has multi-entry visa she will not be using the extension to re-enter. As my mom might find difficult to answer qn.s if any... I dont want her to have this task of showing the extension copy etc... because if I am not wrong when we enter they just seal the date on which we enter... unless they want to give a visa of lesser than 6 months... so if they dont seal anything then if she returns in March 2014 she can just show this extension letter as a proof for staying in the country till that date...Right?

Regarding the other option, as you said it will be not be possible now.
If anybody has any experience or info with this... would like to hear about it.
Thanks.

So the extension is only good if she is in Canada - which she is not and she cannot reenter on that
When she enters Canada, they stamp the entry date - ie., 6 months but she can ask officer if she can get till March 2014 to help with pregnancy and later ( Immigration has himself said you can ask if you like at time of immigration )
The last bolded part - not sure what you are asking? the original extension in point 1 is not valid, only a new one will be required

So lets get this scenario
Mother comes back on June 1 - officer gives entry date/6 months so she can live here till 1 Dec, you can extend just before that for another 6 months - which will go beyond March 2014
or
Mother comes back on June 1 - and request validity till March 2014, you can extend just before that for another 6 months or longer

Thanks again user.

In my last sentence what I meant was... in case my mom doesn't say anything during her entry about extension letter (as she is a bit nervous to talk with them), and the visa officer just seals the date of entry into the country (which I think is usually the case nowadays.. instead of 6 months date) then if she leaves by March 2014 and suppose the officials ask her how she stayed in Canada when her visa was valid only for 6 months... then she can show her extension letter

If we do this way.. is there any risk? At the most they might say extension was actually invalid since you went out of the country but anyway ok.. you can leave the country...right, user?

I am a bit hesitant about telling mom to show the extension letter and ask for visa till March is... she will already be a bit nervous on face and the officer might mistake her that she is using the extension document to re-enter the country (which extensions dont allow and she is not doing that as she is having multi-entry visa.... but it is possible for the officer to think)

Hope you got my point
Thanks for your detailed response, user
Regards
Jennifer

I don't see the point of getting nervous, why does one need to be when you are only visiting - ( not a terrorist ), she can show ext and ask if its still good till March 2014, IMO he will say the same as above but mom can ask till March 2014 and say it was approved but she had to leave and come back now. If you are nervous then leave it, but immigration might see ext in own computer anyways when she comes in, so nothing to be worried about, just say that I was here, got ext but had to leave for important work and now back and would appreciate it if you could give till March 2014
They are easy on parents that way - just give her the confidence to be normal and not to be nervous

Jennifer, please call CIC to confirm this - technically on paper, the newer date takes precedence but since it was atleast approved, it might work but I hope its done with confirmation than just hope and gut feeling.
I mean who is going to ask your mom in details if she was here on a ext before she left, and she will apply for new TRV anyways in the future
