Hi guys,

I just wanted to have an idea on how long an application takes for a TRV to Canada from Philippines. I submitted an online TRV for 5 months for my mother (widowed but common law since 1994, husband staying in Philippines). We would like to spend Christmas and New Year's with her and she's always wanted to see snow. We made it 5 months because we figured we can accompany her back to the Philippines in April/May since we are also going to the Philippines for a family reunion. This was noted in her letters (except for the reunion part since it was just recently decided)

She is retired, no bank accounts, as we are supporting her fully and no land titles under her name (still under my father's family name). She has 2 brothers in Canada, 2 children and grandchildren. She's leaving behind 3 brothers and 1 sister in the Philippines along with 3 children and grandchildren. I believe her ties are stronger in Philippines since her common-law husband is staying there and the rest of my siblings are still there.

We made support and invitation letters for her and opened up a bank account with her name and put money in there as our Christmas presents for her. We reserved tickets for her and got insurance.

What do you think are her chances? I'm seeing alot of quick approvals on here.

Oct 31 - submitted online
Oct 31 - notification application status "opened"

Please share your timelines...approved or not approved and reason, etc.

Thanks!

It might be tough to be approved seeing as how you're asking for a very long time for a visitor. Also, she has a bank account which does not contain her own money, which could cause problems since CIC routinely refuses people for not having their own money in their bank or have sudden large deposits.

But nothing's impossible, you should get a response in a week or two, good luck and let us know the results!

Jomar that was quick! How long did you ask for your mother in law to stay? Can you please tell me what documents you included? I still havent heard anything and im a little worried seeing as though our applications were only sent days apart.

If 5 months wer too long, would cic still give a visa but for only valid for a month?

I asked for an exactly 6 months stay. I heard if they requested for the passport, visa stamp on passport is coming up. Documents i included are: our marriage certificate, my wife's birth certificate and baptismal that shows the relationship, me and my wife's 4 months bank statements, employers letter, invitation letter, notice of assessment. My mother-in-law does not have anything to declare like property or bank account so i put an explanation under letter of support that we have been supporting her since then.

I heard also that cic manila is not issuing single entry anymore. Its all multiple entry visa nowadays unlike before.

Just keep your mother's visa application status posted in here if you have any update. I will post here as well if she has an update.

Oh no! The only thing we didnt provide is our 4
Month bank statement!! I know its only been 4 days but seeing how fast turnarounds are to others, ours is looking slim. :(

There's been an update:

Oct 31 - submitted online
Oct 31 - notification application status "opened"
Nov 10 - New message notification - requesting for passport!!!!!!!!!
Nov 11 - submitted passport in person to VFS Global as instructed

There was a charge for processing/delivery fee of around 1700PHP. They said that the passport with visa will be ready within 3-5 days! Phewww! Got me worried there for a second! I wonder why it took longer?

Anyway, I'm excited for her visa to come to see if she got multiple or single.

Thank you to those who replied and offered inputs etc. :) It's nice to have a place like this to browse during the anticipation of waiting.

Congrats on the multple TRV, the odds were kind of against you, but like I said previously, nothing is impossible, as even myself, my wife got a multiple TRV for life of her passport despite being married to a Canadian and from Vietnam.

Congrats again, and hope you guys have a good time in cold wintry Canada :p

Hi Charing, we ended up just bringing it in person. But you can also do a courier. Look for the VFS Global address. That is where you send it to. If you can, just go in person and they'll help you out.
