Hi all,

I want my sister to go with me to Montreal on TRV for one month. I'm Canadian PR and my husband is Canadian citizen. I have a kid too who is also Canadian. My 13 years old brother died on 13 October in Pakistan. I came to visit Pakistan to be with my family this had time. I'll be leaving for Canada on 11 January 2019. I want my sister to go with me and help me get back to normal life in Canada. I'm also a full time in a CEGEP. I had to cancel my semester to come to Pakistan. My classes will start on 17 January. I really want someone to be with me during evening for sometime as my husband starts working in the evening and comes back home in the morning. And especially it gets dark very early in winter. I've in-laws in Montreal too, no one is going to come and live with me in the evening because they have their own schedules and lives.
Also my sister registered for one month's English language course. Got the acceptance letter from the institute.
She transferred $1800 CAN to my husband in Canada by western union.
She will be living with us in the same home. So there won't be lodging and food expenses on her.
My question is should she apply as Family visit or Short term studies for TRV?
Also what are the chances.
She has no travel history.
She can transfer more funds but does she need to?
She is currently enrolled in fashion designing bachelor's degree (2018-2022)

Can someone reply please?
You need to be patient and not bump your posts. People give information for free here so it can often take a few hours or even a few days for someone to respond.

If you're looking for immediate advice, you need to hire a lawyer.

To answer your questions:
- Taking an English program in Canada is regarded as a weak reason for a visit and often makes IRCC suspect someone has plans to remain in Canada long term. If your sister's main purpose is to visit, then she should apply as a visitor and not mention the English language program.
- With no travel history, she should request a visit of 2-3 weeks at most.
- Your sister needs to show her own funds for the trip (not your husband). If she is planning on coming for 2-3 weeks, she should ideally show at least $5K in her own bank account.
- She needs to demonstrate evidence of ties to her home country. So she should show that she is currently enrolled in a university program (including proof that she has paid for the upcoming semester) and should plan her trip during school vacations.
- She should also show other ties if she can such as property rental / ownership.

Overall, her chances of being approved are likely low since she has few ties to her home country at this time and hasn't traveled previously.

First of all I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately needing someone to stay with you overnight because you are scared is not a reason for a TRV. Canada is a relatively safe country and you are an adult and a parent. You can invest in extra security cameras for your house if you are fearful.

It’s not I’m fearful. It’s about being mentally disturbed. Cameras won’t be helpful in decreasing my stress.

Thanks for helping me out. My sister is 18 and it’s very unlikely to have property rental and ownership at this age in Pakistan. She has enrollment proof and leave approved from university because of our brother’s death. We have official death certificate of our brother as well.
I want her to go with me for emotional support for some time as it was a very hard time when I heard my brother’s news and I was alone in home with my 4 year old.
I totally understand the TRV procedure. We are totally okay with the refusal. I just want to try.

Good luck. I think the chances of refusal are still quite high but worth a try.

Make sure you only request a 2-3 week trip. If you request anything longer, refusal is pretty much guaranteed.

I’d reach out to your healthcare provider . There’s numerous medications on the market fitted in dealing with anxiety , either short term or long term . Or look for a professional to sit down with and talk about what you’re experiencing. I found that after my mother passed away over the course of weeks, talking to someone who was a total stranger, helped me tremendously. If pharmaceutical medication doesn’t fit your needs, there’s holistic routes you can look at, I’d check with naturopathic doctor in your area
If it’s an emergency, and you’re feeling mentally disturbed then you probably want to avail yourself to your nearest emergency department at a hospital . They have crisis workers there 24/7, where you don’t have to wait to be referred to, which can lengthen the time in seeing a professional

Do you have another relative/family member who can demonstrate stronger ties to Pakistan? You may want to apply for that relative/family member instead of applying for your sister.

As much as you would like to have your sister with you in this difficult phase, the chances of her being refused are extremely high. A TRV refusal at this point in your life could only make you/your family to feel more disappointed and more upset.

Maybe when you return in January, you would feel a bit more stronger. Or alternatively, you may want to consider staying with your family for few more months
