Hi all,

I'm planning to apply for TRV for my parents while they visit my brother in the US. Assuming the processing time is still 15 days when applied online from the US, I was wondering has there been any recent changes made to application process from the US?. Also, I would like them to be able to stay with me in Canada for 6 months. But the major downside to this, they would have only 6 months time in the US as per I-94 card (They eventually have to return to the US to go back to India) If they stay with me for 3 months in Canada and then go back to the US for a short trip (for a week) - will they get an additional 6 months on their passport for the US side?. Sorry, i know this question involves both US/Canada input. Wondering if anyone else has done this before.

Many thanks

Rama

It's not unusual for processing to take a few months. While the posted processing time is 15 days - this is just an estimate and we see applications take much longer on a regular basis here. Generally speaking, we recommend that people apply for a TRV while they are still in their home country rather than from the US.

How long a person is allowed into either Canada or the US is up to the border official they encounter. If that border official feels they are spending too much time in a country or not behaving as true visitors, it's quite possible they may not be allowed into the country for the full six months.
