Hi Folks
I am an Indian citizen, age 28, living in Toronto on PGWP. I have just recently filed my PR application.
My parents and my elder sister applied for visitors visa to canada just last week in New Delhi and the Canadian High commission refused it based on 2 objections:
1. Travel History
2. Proof of family ties in Canada and in the home country

My father n mother are 67 & 63 yrs old respectively. Both of them have never traveled anywhere before, even though our financial situation is pretty sound. They showed liquid savings of almost $100,000 in the bank, plus various property title deed documents, ITR, proof of rental income.
My sister has traveled to Singapore, Hong Kong, Turkey & Thailand. She included her own employment docs alongwith my parents docs. She has been previously refused for a Canadian study visa couple of years ago.

How should they overcome the objection of travel history? Just because they never traveled in their lives doesn't mean they shouldn't do it now, when they are retired and have lots of free time and can also afford to pay for it!
Should they include a detailed travel itinerary for their stay in Canada (2 weeks)?
My other sister is married and settled in USA, and my parents mentioned in the cover letter that they plan to apply for US visa also, after Canadian visa and want to travel to both countries when they depart from India.

Proof of family ties- Ours is a very small family, so no way we can show more family ties. I was convinced that since my parents are old and have more than reasonable amount of liquid & fixed assets- that it should be sufficient to demonstrate ties to home country.
I have no idea how to overcome the objection of family ties, any suggestions?

They want to re-apply within a week's time otherwise they'd have to wait a whole year for next summer to re-apply, because there's no point in applying for TRV in winters and coming to canada.

If "Travel History" is mentioned it does not imply "you must have travelled" it implies "we have found not evidence to support your purpose of visit and willingness to go back home after the end of your visit in your travel history". Why would you assume only people that have travelled can get a VISA?

If "Proof of family ties in Canada and in the home country" it implies "we have found not evidence to support your purpose of visit and willingness to go back home after the end of your visit in your family ties in Canada and in the home country". Why would you assume money can be considered a tie? Money can move around easily.

Money and assets are not an issue, so drop any argument related to that. (They have 100K USD? CAN? )

Why was your sister denied a study permit?

Advice:

- Let your sister apply by herself. Three people visiting one is way more complicated than 2 visiting one.
- Apply first for US VISA and then for Canadian VISA. This will help a lot.
- Yes, include a detailed itinerary on what they plan to do.

Firstly, I am NOT assuming that they must have travelled elsewhere! So, perhaps you're assuming that I assumed? Of course, travel history (or the lack of it) shouldn't mean that Canada cannot be the first country anybody goes to! That's exactly why I ASKED how I should overcome that objection...you haven't said anything in that regard.

Secondly, when did I say that I assumed that family ties means assets? Geez...again, you're assuming that I assumed! And, AGAIN...no relevant advice regarding it, apart from a seemingly patronizing retort.

Thirdly, I KNOW money/assets isn't an issue...not in my case anyway! Having said that, having immovable property is a VERY important evidence of ties to home country.

Fourthly...how does it even matter if 100k is USD or CAD...the difference would be +/- 10% based on USD/CAD exchange rate.....so why ask such pointless question as if it's relevant to my problem?

Fifthly, my sister was denied a study visa in 2012 because they apparently thought that there's a mismatch between the course that she had chosen and her previous academic record/professional career path. (which is fair enough...it's their decision).

Now, let's come to the 'advice' that you have given:
1. "Three people is more complicated that two people visiting"- I LOL-ed at this so hard! Well, according to this logic, let's say there's a family of four, so they should apply for visa in 2 pairs and seperately?!?! *smh*
2. "Apply for the US visa before the Canada visa because that will help"- Based on what? what's the logic? They could well be denied a US visa too! Then someone might advice that apply for canada visa first, that's going to help!!! Again- please do share the logic for this, I am curious!
3. "Provide a detailed itinerary"- YES...I agree, a tentative itinerary should help matters.

By the way, I appreciate the time and effort you've taken to reply to this post and offer your advice. But, it's most just patronizing retorts and no real advice. Having said that, THANK YOU! *Peace*

!. You are getting advice from a website where people are donating their time. You could try and be a little more grateful. You want REAL advice as you call it, GET A REAL LAWYER.

2. If you are applying for your entire family it looks to them as if they are not going to go back. If your parents applied their own and left your sister at home it might be easier. Not trying to say it is the best solution but it might work for you.

1. I know I am getting advice on this forum from other people who are donating their time voluntarily, I have been on this forum long enough to already know that. Perhaps I was a lil too harsh in my feedback, but what I mean by REAL advice isn't REAL PROFESSIONAL FOOLPROOF LAWYER-LIKE advice- but just simply advice TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE/JUDGEMENT and NOT patronizing and/or rhetorical comments instead (something which the other person who replied is guilty of). This is not the first time I have seeked opinions of others on this forum or offered my own opinion, so of course I am grateful to all the nice folks out there who take out time to read and respond and try to help out.

2. Which is why I want to thank you for YOUR advice- it does make sense, although like you said, it's not the ideal scenario. But, I just wonder if it's in the realm of possibility that when 2-3 people apply together, Canada approves/refuses the visa on a selective basis rather than a blanket decision for all the applicants. I know for a fact that US does offer decisions on a selective basis during the visa interview, not sure about Canada.
