Hello everyone,
I will try to make this brief while still providing all the necessary information so that you will be better able to understand my situation, as it is rather unique.
As mentioned in the title, my girlfriend is a Russian citizen who is currently on a student visa in Japan. We applied back in April of this year for a TRV for her to come visit me in Canada for a two-week stay. I did my research and had both of us gather all the necessary documentation for the process of the visa. This included all documentation and a letter from her university as she is on a full scholarship (University of Tokyo). Further, she included financial information and a letter from her father in Russia. I also included a letter of invitation that I had notarized by my lawyer. However, I did not include my financials, as the application did not ask for it. She also booked flights (return) for the proposed visitation period as we thought this might help. Unfortunately, she heard back from the visa office the day before her flight and her visa was not approved.
I should also note, during this point, we were not actually in a relationship, as we had just met prior on my trip to Japan in December of 2014. In hindsight, it may have been better to say that we were in a relationship, although we did not lie when we said we were “just good friends”. Below I will outline the reasons given for the denial of her visa by the processing officer:
“You have not satisfied me that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident. In reaching this decision, I considered several factors, including:
1- Your travel history
2- Your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence
3- Your personal status and financial assets
4- I am not satisfied you have answered truthfully all questions put to you
5- You have not supported sufficient documentation to support your hosts income and assets”
Of course, the reason for my post is that we wish to submit a new TRV application for her to come visit in September. To help, let me include so background information on myself. Since the time of her visa denial, I have been back and forth to Japan twice, once in April and once just recently. I am 24-year-old male undergrad student who will be graduating at the end of August. Because of this, I am not currently working; rather, I’m living off my savings. As far as accommodations I am currently renting, however it is from a close acquaintance and I just pay cash every month, hence, I have no rental agreement. Because of this, my mother mentioned that she and her husband could write a letter of invite for my girlfriend and sponsor her stay while in Canada. I should mention, they are both highly ranked provincial government employees who are both well recognized with more than enough income/assets for evidence. Considering this, my questions are as follows:
1) I know showing prove that my girlfriend will return to Japan is very difficult, but what can we provide to show that she in fact will? (She has no intent of staying here longer than her proposed visit)
2) Due to my lack of “credibility” as far as assets and income, is it a good idea to have my mother and her husband write a letter of invite and sponsor her stay instead of me?
3) What have I over looked in our initial attempt to get a TRV?
4) Do you have any suggestion or advice for applying a second time?
This time around, we will mention that we are in a relationship and will make note to her prior attempt to receive a TRV. Please don’t hesitate to ask me any question on areas in which you are unclear. I know that her being a Russian citizen raises numerous red flags and it is anything but easy to get a TRV for a Russian female, but we are still going to try.
Thank you in advance for your feedback/help; I really appreciate it.
Regards,
Basset
