TRV extension

Hello:

I am from India married to a canadian citizen. We have been married for 5 years. I came to Canada on the 15th of November 2009 and my TRV is valid till the 15th of May 2010. I am thinking of extending my stay [my first extension request] and I note from the CIC website that I should apply atleast 30 days before expiry date. Can I still apply for extension?

Thanks

Yes, but make sure your application is in order (fee/docs attached) reaches CPC-V before the expiration of your present allowed visit.

Thanks so much Job_seeker. As long as CPC-V receivess my application by the 10th of May, I should be fine right? I am still not sure if I should extend my stay or leave by the 15th. Thanks again.

Thanks Baloo. Yes, I will make sure it's sent by registered mail with a tracking number. I have one more question, incase my TRV extension request is denied, does the letter state for how long I can stay in Canada? Thanks again.

If your application is in order and it is received by CPC-V before the expiration of your present visit, you are on implied status until you receive a response from them. If the request for extension is refused you have 30 days to leave Canada.

@ comingtocanada - General information -

In my case it took 55 days to get an extension approved. I got the three months that I asked for.
Well, that was the gap between the arrival of my documents at Vegreville and the start date on my new VR.
The letter containing the VR took about another week to arrive in Ottawa.
