Hello All,

I want to visit Canada as a tourist and looking for guidance in putting forth my application. I want to visit Canada and spend around 15 days of my vacation this december visiting places Niagara Falls, Lake Louise, Jasper, Vancouver, northern lights in yellow knife, northwest territories.
Here are my details :
I am working in one of big IT companies in India as a Senior Consultant since 4 years.I have never travelled outside India and this will be my first trip out of the country. To be honest I am just starting to knock things out of my bucket list and it is starting with Canada. I have saved 6k for my trip and would be sponsoring my trip to Canada along with the flight tickets.
I am submitting below documents :
Detailed Itinerary including proof of air ticket and hotel booking.
Two years of my Income Tax returns in India .
Bank Statement for the past 6 months.
Payslips,Latest Compensation Letter, Joining Letter ( dated 4 years back)
I have got a letter from my employer granting my leave of absence also stating my position, Current Salary, Date of Hire, years of service.

I was going through the blogs and could see that there were lot of rejections for genuine TRV cases.

Can you please advice if I need to submit any other documentation to get affirmative response for my visa ?

Also, I have a distant relative in Canada who can provide me invitation letter , please suggest if this can help in making my application stronger.

Hi Neha,

I don't want to sound discouraging. Your Canada visit is not likely to get checked off your bucket list considering your current situation.

1. You want to travel all across Canada. But the money you've saved up will not get you beyond one city + airfare from India-Canada.

2. Have you prepared a realistic day-by-day plan with detailed expense estimates for every aspect (sightseeing, travel, international and domestic airfares, hotels, winter clothes, etc)? Can you afford your planned visit + airfare + surplus?

3. You need to prove you have a genuine reason to visit. And, with a travel plan across Canada, your distant relative's invitation does not help because you will not be staying with him/her.

4. As you are basically a tourist, the visa officer would like to see short stay travel to other visa-required countries such as the US, UK, EU, Australia, NZ, etc.... which you don't have

Why only Canada ?
EU or UK which is nearest to your country ?

Your trip includes (based on practical planning) about 12-13,000 km of travel in 15 days. Even with air travel, your travel plans are unrealistic ( and a visa officer will assume the same) and impractical. It will immediately throw up red flags as to just how genuine a visitor you really are and what your actual intent is. Expect a refusal with an itinerary like that.

1. I mentioned 6k excluding my international airfare.
2. I understand the fact now that from the budget perspective the trip is little aggressive.
Seeing the length and breadth of Canada do you want me to focus on few cities of Canada ? will that help, I will be content to visit Vancouver and yellowknife during this visit.
3. Ok, i get that.
4. Is their anyway i can convince the officer without having traveled to any of these countries ? I understand that trv is tough for Canada but if I can prove strong ties to home country (which i assume I have listed), Are those not enough to get Visitor visa ?

So you recommend to shorten the trip to one side of the country or few cities based on the funds available and duration of the trip ? I realize that I was being aggressive with the trip with shortened stay of 1/2 days in each city.
Please suggest.

I’d suggest focusing on one area of the country. West or east, your choice. Plan your itinerary based on that.

Being able to afford the trip is only one aspect. If you've been able to save up only CAD 6,000 in four years, it would indirectly imply that your salary is not good.... or your expenses are high. In other words, your employment is not a financial incentive for you to return to India.


1. Do you own property? Not owned by your family of course?

2. Do you have any loans/mortgage?

3. Credit cards (not debit cards) with a good credit limit?

4. Family members that are dependent on you financially or for their well-being?

Hi Neha,

One more thing, what are your travel dates? Because right now(and many months from now), is not the best season to travel to Canada, unless you have an interest in skiing and other winter sports.

And they do consider these things, when they make a decision. Once my business visa to US was rejected because they thought that my travel dates was close to the holiday season for it to be a genuine business travel.
