TRV Application Status: Background Check Started Before Eligibility – Is This Normal?

I recently applied for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), and I wanted to check if my case is progressing as expected or if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Here’s a quick summary of my application timeline:

  • Application Date: 23-12-2024
  • Biometrics: 24-12-2024
  • Background Check: Started shortly after biometrics completion.
  • Eligibility Check: Has not started yet.
Now, I’m concerned because it’s unusual for the eligibility check to remain pending while the background check has already begun. I’ve submitted a very basic and fact-based set of documents, and I’m a resident of Saudi Arabia with Indian nationality.

Is this sequence normal, or should I be worried? Has anyone experienced a similar situation where the background check started before eligibility was even reviewed?

I’d appreciate any insights or experiences others can share, especially those who have applied from the Middle East or with a similar background.

Normal. Background check starts first to verify authenticity of documents and get immigration information from countries. You applied less than a month ago and eligibility check has yet to begin.

Thank you for your response, I understand that the process can vary and it’s normal for these checks to happen in parallel or one after the other.

However, my concern stems from the fact that I applied for the TRV without much prior knowledge of the documentation required. I made sure to provide accurate information on the form and submitted the basic documents that I thought were necessary, such as:

  • Passport
  • Saudi Resident ID
  • Bank Statement
  • Credit Card Statement
My plan is to visit Canada for only one week. However, after doing some research, I was informed that these documents may not be sufficient for a TRV application and that my application could be rejected as a result.

Is this true? Should I be concerned that my application may be rejected due to the limited documents I provided?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

To get a work permit you need to show:
- Funds: Proof of cash in the bank to support a trip.
- Ties to return: job letter with approved leave, you aren’t a citizen so you need to show that you have long term residency (if you don’t then ties to return to India), business, income property, investments, spouse/children
- Travel history: UK, US, NZ, AUS

You don’t live in country of citizenship so you need very strong ties to return. Why go for one week?

I have 14 Years Residency in Saudi Arabia and I am going for purely tourism purpose.
So if you have not received a response by end of February then raise a webform.

May I ask where you are going for one week. Canada is a big country so assume you are just visiting one city.

You should have included more documents to prove return like job letter with approved leave, business registration, spouse/children staying in country etc.

Let us hope for the best, I make all the documents ready if they ask additional documents i will provide.
They will not ask for additional documents. You are expected to provide all the information in your application. It will just be refused with a list of reasons for refusal.
