TRV - Application not processed

Hi,
I have applied for TRV for me and my wife from Toronto after extension of WP. I submitted my paper application to Ottawa centre on 15-Dec. On 15-Dec 2015, the estimated time was 8 days to process paper application. Later it was changed to 12 days. Currently it shows, CIC is working on 1st Jan 2016 application. But so far, i haven't received passports.Few points to highlight -
- Forgot to put return envelop in the parcel. But when checked with CIC they said, they will send by normal post
- My friend applied after 4 days via paper application and he also forgot to put return envelop. He got his passport back on 15 Jan 2016.
- Dropped an online enquiry to CIC, they responded on 15 Jan, saying, application is in process

Since i am travelling back to India on 30th Jan 2016, kindly suggest me next steps to get my passport back as i am not sure what to do ?

"Working on" means that applications received to that date are currently under process. Nothing more.

Different applications, different people, different timelines. No good in comparing.

Yes, it is under process.

Wait and be patient. Nothing else for you to do.

Thanks for reply. I just want to say, my friend and myself applied for same visitor visa. He applied 4 days later but he got it. so really confused what to do ? and why my application is not picked up prior to him ?
