Do you want to return to Canada? If so, you will need a Visa to return to Canada.

I think you can transit through UK without the need of a transit visa. See below

From UK website:
'Transit without visa' concession - DATV exemptions
If you are a national of a country covered by the DATV system, you may be able to transit the UK airside without a visa. To qualify for this exemption:
you must arrive and depart by air; and
your onward flight must be confirmed, and must depart within 24 hours; and
you have proper documentation for your destination, including a visa if necessary.

Additionally, you must hold:

1) a valid entry visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA, and a valid airline ticket for travel via the UK, as part of a journey to or from one of those countries; or
2) a valid airline ticket for travel via the UK as part of a journey from Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA, if you are transiting the UK no more than 6 months after the date when you last entered Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA with a valid entry visa for that country; or

Thanks for your reply but concern is:

My current country of residence is Canada but I dont have a canadian TRV as of now. I plan to come back to Canada and my ticket will show that.
Will I be ok if I dont have a candian VISA but my return ticket would say come back to Canada via US.

No you can't do that...

They will only allow you to enter Canada from US if you only visit US without a valid Visa...you are going to UK and India and there would be stamps to prove that you went to india and you might be able to enter US but not Canada without a valid Canadian visa..

So let me get this straight.

1. You have a canadian work permit but not a travel visa in your passport
2. You are in the US right now
3. You fly out of toronto and transit through US then UK
4. Are you planning on staying in UK (i.e. going out of the airport) or you are just transitting i.e. changing planes with a few hours of stay at the airport?

Why go through the trouble of flying out of toronto and then transit via US when you can just fly out of the US?

Assuming you have an Indian passport, nobody will ask anything if you are flying to India. However, since your returning destination is Canada, without a TRV they wont even let you board the plane (even if you have a valid work permit).

So you can either apply for a TRV (easy when you have a valid TRP) in Canada before you leave, or perhaps you can get one in India (dont take my word for it ).

When you enter Canada by land from the US, you dont need the TRV but if you fly in on a commercial carrier, you do need one.

However, if you fly out of the US and fly back to the US and then enter canada, you wont need a TRV. I would check before considering this option.

Thanks for such a detailed response.
I will get it straight now:

1. I have a Canada WP and VISA has expired and I am currently in Canada.
2. I have a US VISA as well (B1/B2)
3. I want to go to India for vacations and I am getting a very cheap ticket if I travel from US -> UK -> India and coming back same route.
4. Now my concern, since my Canada WP has expired, Can I go via UK to India if I have a valid US VISA since flight is going from US.

*************************
So to address your concern
You are arriving/departing UK by air with a confirmed onward flight within 24 hours and are Indian Citizen
with a valid entry visa for USA and a valid airline ticket (on arrival in UK from USA).

If above statement is true for you then you do not need a Transit Visa
************************

You also have the option to extend your TRV (to re-enter Canada) before leaving Canada.
