I was planning to travel to Costa Rica from Toronto on July 5th. I have a case type 10 permit, which pretty much states that I am a temporary resident in Canada. This permit is attached to my fathers work permit. The thing is, is that this permit expired on June 27, and I am currently waiting on my new permit to come. If I decide to travel with my expired permit, I will be able to leave the country, but I think I might have problems getting in again. Is there any way I can come back with an expired temporary resident permit? I do not know when the permit will come, it might be today or in a week, but is it possible for me to still travel without this permit?

Thanks in advance,
Juan Molina

You can certainly leave without a valid permit. However you cannot return with an expired permit. The airline won't let you board the plane back to Canada. You need to have a valid permit to return.

Even if I get an ETA? Is there no other loopholes, like getting a temporary visitor visa, or would that take longer than 5 days?

What passport do you hold? What's your citizenship?

My citizenship is from Spain. I have just completed high school here in Toronto, so I have my diploma and everything. I have also gotten accepted into Mcmaster so I can prove that I live here, but I don't know if this is gonna be enough to travel with an expired permit. I know it will come soon, but I need to leave July 5
