Hi,

I am planning to travel to Canada in September and have just been made aware of the new laws that all Canadian citizens require a Canadian passport to enter.
This is where it gets tricky and I am confused.
My dad was born in Canada but I was born in Australia. Have only ever visited Canada twice for a total of 3 weeks and I have never applied for Canadian citizenship etc but apparently I might be considered a citizen by descent. Now I am wondering if I require documentation and a Canadian passport?
Also what about my Children( 2008, 2010 and 2015)?

Cheers Shaun

Based on the information you've provided - yes, you're a Canadian citizen. Your children are not since they are second generation born abroad.

Normally you would need an ETA to travel to Canada. However since you are technically a citizen, the ETA should be refused. Yes - you should get a Canadian passport. Before you can apply for one, you'll first need to go through the process of confirming you are a citizen. Start now. It can take some time. Process is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof-how.asp
