Hi,

My wife needs to travel back to Canada in two weeks from India. She had to urgently travel to India because of a death in the family. Her PR expired like a week before this happened and we were in a process of filling out an application but couldn't complete. However, she has a valid H4 Visa. I have H-1B and commute to detroit for work and my wife still has valid H-4 visa. We will submit PRTD application but is it possible that she flies back to the US and then I drive her into Canada? If the CBSA officer asks and we tell that my wife travelled to India will that be a problem. I've personally entered once via land border from the US on an expired PR card but never visited any other country.

The CBP might be an issue because even Canadian citizen being detained... PRTD would be safer bet.

She has travelled quite a few times on h4 with no issues till now and also few days we crossed the border. My question is more for CBSA?

Also, if we apply for PRTD and we don't get that in time and we come to Canada via road from the US then what happens to the PRTD application?
But you are in US already. Go to the land border with Canada.

I haven't booked my wife's flight to the US until now and she is still in India. We still have 3 weeks until she is ready to travel. I am exploring options for now. I have the US land border option but my preference would be that she flies directly to Canada. My question is if I apply for PRTD and we don't get it in 3 weeks and we decide to go with the US option then what happens to the PRTD application? Will it negatively impact the future PR renewal application?

Probably best if you send a webform requesting that the PRTD application be withdrawn. IRCC can see from CBSA records anyways that you've made it to Canada.
