I am currently in Canada and have recently completed my study and applied Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) on August 22, 2025.

I understand that my study permit will automatically expire 90 days after the date of program completion (around October 15, 2025), regardless of the printed expiry date on the permit (Dec 2025). I have a few questions regarding the validity of my Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and its use after program completion:
  1. My current TRV is an SW-1 visa, valid until Dec 31 2025. Does this TRV also automatically expire 90 days after program completion, similar to the study permit? Or is it still considered valid until the printed expiry date, even after my student status ends?
  2. If the TRV remains valid, am I permitted to travel outside Canada and re-enter using this SW-1 TRV while my PGWP application is in progress (i.e., while I am on maintained/implied status)? Would I need to apply for a new visitor TRV (V-1) instead? Additionally, what supporting documents should I carry to present to the CBSA officer at the port of entry when re-entering using my SW-1 TRV?
  3. While on maintained/implied status, am I allowed to travel at any time before the printed expiry date of my SW-1 TRV and be permitted to re-enter Canada? Would leaving the country during this period result in the loss of my implied status and if so, would that mean I can no longer continue working full-time (currently with a security company) until my PGWP is approved upon my re-entry?
  4. Once I receive my PGWP, and if my SW-1 TRV is still valid, do I need to apply for a new visitor TRV (V-1) immediately? Or can I continue using the existing SW-1 TRV until it expires, assuming I have no international travel plans in the meantime?
I would greatly appreciate guidance on these points.
Thank You.
