I haven't been to the USA and didn't have it in places I've been to outside of Canada on my PR application. I was thinking of going on a small weekend trip to the USA. My question is will this impact my application in anyway? Does new travel since the application bring submitted affect the process in anyway? Would me going to USA now impact the passport process as the last thing I want is to wait a year for the PR process and just have it messed up by one weekend trip to USA.

Thx for the reply. It looks like you haven't done the Passport request yet though so can you be 100% sure. I fear maybe something may come up with my case and then I would need the FBI clearance as well which I hear is a 1.5yr wait to get.

swalsh19, who told you that an applicant has to wait for 1 yr for FBI clearance if he crosses the border and enters USA while the PR applications is in process!!!

This does not sound right at all to me..seniors, can you please clarify this for us.

Just read that the FBI clearance can take a long time. Even if I am wrong and it is fast I don't want to delay the process for a simple weekend excursion.

The question what I am asking is how could you even think that travelling to US for a week on pleasure would affect your cec app processing? Do you know someone in the same situation?

I'm hoping it doesn't affect it if anything maybe it helps in the end as I will have checks done for the temporary 3mth travel permit you receive. The PR process is so painfully long but worth the wait I just don't want to do anything to make it longer then needed, I'm sure you understand.

I totally understand but I am not not quite clear with your situation.

I am just waiting for seniors, to confirm that travelling to US would not affect the application processing.

For all I can now answer this question for you all as I consulted with an immigration lawyer. Strangely enough people filing under CEC are good to travel anywhere while in processing status of case, which is different for people filing under Spousal class. Not sure why but it gives me the answer I need!

One more thing you need FBI clearance or any other country police certificate if you stayed in those countries for 6 months or more. So weekend trip will not require you to get FBI clearance. Don't worry about that.. Next thing is does this impact your PR process, I don't think so.

FYI. To get FBI report if you stayed in USA for more than 6 months is 6-8 weeks. I got it in 6 weeks.

I went to the states for a week 3 times and back home for a month during my PR process. It didn't cause any problem with my application at all.

Its already in this forum that you are good to travel outside Canada while CEC PR appli is in process (and how do I know it because I found it in this same forum after a little research... 8) :)).
Also CEC PR application is judged on the basis of your eligibility met before you apply. It doesn't have any impact if you travel outside (as long as you update the mailing address if its for a longer duration.
Agree to what Yahoo said: no one needs FBI clearance only for a trip to USA; unless you worked/lived in states for (and more than) 6 months.

I am a U.S.Citizen, and my husband who is sponsoring me under Family Spousal Sponsorship, is Canadian. We submitted in March 2017. We have heard absolutely nothing since probably around June. Medicals done, Schedule A done, background check done (FBI), and additional documents received by CIC...they have everything but of course we are still waiting as I am positive it's just sitting around on a desk somewhere waiting to clarify certain things or whatever....since I sent my medical in the same day they asked for it, but they still took their 2/3 months to even look at it....anyways my question is this....I haven't seen my family in almost two years waiting for this to get finished, being told I really shouldn't travel because they may not let me back into Canada. I know it's always a risk but geesh....I really miss my family and my mother is very ill right now, and in the hospital. I'd really like to see her. I have a VR that is due to expire in April, it's my second extension, as I'm living in Canada with my husband while our paperwork processes. I have a valid passport, my VR that is still good until April....I want to travel to the U.S. for Christmas or sooner to see my mum....what are the implications if any on my PR if I do so?
