my husband and i have been saving up/waiting to go travelling.

i just got approved as a sponsor, and i assume my husbands application has (maybe) been sent off to new york for his processing. which on the site says it is taking about 22 months to process.

we'd like to go to ecuador for a few months! i definately understand that it is a risk for him to reenter canada, but we are willing to take that risk.

is travelling something that we should notify cic about? i still keep my same job and address...also if there is something more they need from us, is it ok if it takes us a month to get it back to them? at our loss obviously.

our main focus right now is travelling and him getting back into the country. thanks for any advice/input

Outland apps for USA citizens are processed in CPP-Ottawa. The average time these days is 8-10 months or so.

There is usually no problems at all with visa-exempt outland applicants travelling while PR is being processed. When you return to Canada, he will just enter again as a visitor and will most likely get a new 6-month visitor status. If for any reason he is denied entry (very rare), it would have no effect on the application except he would just need to wait in USA until his PR is approved.

No need to worry when you applied outland.

We traveled through Ecuador last year for 6 weeks. Amazing country, good food and cheap. I hope you speak Spanish. We met only 4 people in 6 weeks who could understand a little English ;-)

Interviews are very rare for visa-exempt applicants. Generally, interviews are called when the VO suspects the relationship is not genuine, i.e. a Marriage of Convenience, or when there are big red flags in the app (age difference, cultural difference, language barrier etc.).

If you guys have plenty of evidence of your genuine relationship, there is little chance of an interview.

I spent 3 months in Ecuador, beautiful country. It's possible to get around with minimal Spanish but you guys should really study up on the basics and have a good translation app or book. The people are very friendly and helpful when you try to speak Spanish to them. I had a good time in Quito, really loved the city, great nightlife, plenty of sights to see; I spent a bit of time there studying Spanish. Banos is also nice, touristy but lots to do, a good jump off place to do a jungle trip. Lots of little towns on the coast to visit. Are you planning to do the Galapagos Islands?

I didn't, not enough money lol. There's not really a way to just get a boat over, you need to fly over and travel the islands on a boat tour with a registered guide. Galapagos access is very restricted, they have tight controls in place to protect the islands.

Sometimes it's possible to get a good last-minute deal wandering around the tourist offices in Quito or Guayaquil but usually trips book up well in advance.

We started in Guayaquil, went to Puerto Lopez, Isla de la Plata (poor man's galapagos with thousands of blue footed boobies), Puerto Cayo, Canoa, Zumbahua, Quilotoa, Banos, Puyo, the Amazon, Cuenca and back to the south coast via Guayaquil. We just spent one night in Quito on the way home. We don't like big cities and that's why we didn't meet many English speaking people. We didn't see many tourists either. It was great ;-)
