My boyfriend's parents are on their second visa extension on an implied status and are planning a third extension. They are hoping that when the Canadian border opens that they can take a trip back home and then fly back into Canada. Can they travel on implied status? They are certain that the implied status is the exact same thing as an approved visa. I am not so certain...

If your boyfriend's parents do this, with an intention of living in Canada as visitors, they may be refused entry at the border and sent home. CBSA officers do not like to see people taking quick trips to "reset status."

Additionally, an extension does not grant them re-entry rights to Canada. If their stay is extended and they leave, an extension is not a visa. They would need a valid visa to re-enter the country.
