i have landed but my PR card still hasn't arrived. i had to go back to the UK for a wedding but now i need to travel back to canada. I know that being from the UK i don't really need my PR card, but i am getting a one way ticket and some airlines will refuse to take me with a travel document for the Canadian high commission in London. two questions:

1. can you apply in person at the commission?
2. How long does it take to get the document if you apply in person?

Thanks

You shouldnt need the travel document. Just your passport and the COPR should suffice. I think the travel document is meant for people who need a visa to enter Canada.

I left Canada to go to the US and returned with no problems with just passport and COPR.

I cant help you with your questions though, sorry. I dont know how long it would take to obtain a travel document.

You can apply in person.
In person: 1 to 5 working days - Please note that some applications will require a minimum of 10 working days for processing.
Drop Box: 1 to 5 working days - Please note that some applications will require a minimum of 10 working days for processing.
Mail: 4 weeks (not including delivery times) - Please note that some applications will require a minimum of 10 working days for processing.

A travel document (for Canada) is normally required for travel on a commercial carrier.
Crossing a land border is OK with your passport and COPR.

What airlines have refused travel (when you have a travel document) ?

FWIW You may find that a return ticket is not as expensive as a single.

So she could fly to the US then drive across the border.

I should've mentioned. I had no problems with just passport and COPR but i was driving across the border.

I'm sure there are other people who have flown into canada from UK without the PR card.

heleng - Perhaps you should ask this question on the outland London thread?

"This application is for permanent residents outside of Canada who need proof of their status so they can return to Canada."
