Hi,

I obtained my PGWP earlier this year but haven’t applied for a TRV. I’m currently on a student visa (multiple entry) that’s expiring in August. Due to personal problems, I need to fly back to my home country (a non-visa-exempt country) next week (late March). I have a few questions:

1. Would I be able to re-enter Canada with my current student visa?
2. If #1 is possible, is there a cut-off time (i.e., 3 months prior to the visa expiry date)?
3. If #1 isn’t possible, would it be possible to apply for a TRV outside Canada?

I’m gathering information to hash out the best plans.

Thanks!

Your study permit is cancelled 90 days after graduation and also when you get PGWP. You are no longer on a study permit.

I understand this for the study permit, but how about the student visa — is it the same?
Study permit and visa are the same thing. You are on a work visa now. Your study permit has expired. You need a valid TRV to enter Canada.
