Traveling to United States with expired multiple TRV

I am from India and landed in canada as an international student. I graduated from school in May 2019 and applied for my post graduation work permit on June 12, 2019. Also, I have a valid study permit until March 2020 but my multiple entry TRV is expired as I renewed my student visa but not the TRV. I need to travel to United States by first week of September by land but my TRV is expired. Can I travel and come back from States while waiting for the post graduation work permit and expired TRV? Please let me know as soon as possible.

No you need a TRV to reenter Canada.

I contacted CIC and they said “if solely travelling to states by land, you do not require a valid TRV. An expired one would work as long as you have a valid study or work permit. I am confused now.

Most of the info can be found on the IRCC website. Of course you still need a US visa to enter the US so assume you have one of those
