Hi

I'm have an expired PGWP but I'm Elligible to extend it because I didn't get my full 3 yrs due to my passport validity at the time of application. I have applied for my pgwp extension and have my receipt and copy of my application documents. I have a job and also have my offer letter. I have a 2yrs US multiple entry visa and would like to travel to the US for 2 weeks.

Would I be alloved to come back to Canada with my expired work permit and application letter ?

yes as long as you show funds to survive in Canada, they will let you back in with the proof.. but if you are working, you will lose your implied status and cannot continue working/getting paid if you set foot outside of Canada.

I am in the same situation and had to cancel my trip to the US because I am still waiting for my PGWP since June. I thoroughly found out these details.. :(

Who did you consult with regarding this? I am waiting since June too! Currently they are processing July applications. Did you call CIC? What did they tell you?

Do you have a entry visa? (the visitor visa sticker in your passport)

I spoke with a border agent who said if you just travel to the USA, you dont lose your implied status. However you need a valid entry visa to enter Canada or board a flight to Canada.

There is never any guarantee of re-entry. No one on here can tell you for sure that you will be allowed back into Canada. Also, as said by mets15, you would lose your Implied Status as soon as you left Canada and not be able to work upon re-entry until you receive your new work permit.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/validity/implied.asp

If a temporary resident applies for renewal of their work or study permit and their permit expires before a decision is made, R186(u) and R189 (the right to continue working or studying under the same conditions pending a determination of their application for renewal) apply only as long as the person remains in Canada.

Yes I applied on June 26th, I've called CIC so many times that now they know when I last called and are rude and say to not call for 3 months.. I am just in contact with my MP for help. Technically they are working on August apps by now, and May and June applicants are still f***ing waiting. I have had to cancel my Christmas trip to see my family now too, after already cancelling another trip in October. It just sucks.

Nope. Entry is not guaranteed but if you have enough money in your bank account, you should be okay. That's not true, I haven't had a valid visa sticker in my passport since December 2013, I never renewed it and I've been to Florida already because I had a valid study permit at the time. If you go only to the US and back, you don't need a valid TRV, just a valid study or work permit.. But you definitely lose your implied status, I have called CBSA and CIC and checked online on CIC. I was desperately trying to find a loophole to go to Florida in October as I had tickets booked to see my family and I googled and googled, so I can tell you for sure that leaving means you lose your implied status. I am already working full-time here, so I couldn't risk that.. But if you have funds and are not working, you can go and come back, should be okay..
