Traveling to the US as a Permanent Resident

Hello,
I will be travelling to the US in Jan- Feb, 2019.
As of now, I have applied to renew my PR Card, as the original card has expired.
I am worried that if I do not receive my PR card by my travelling date, I will not be able to return to Canada with JUST my passport. What are alternative options that I can take while the PR Card comes and I am away in the States?
I have a visa exempt passport, South Korean, so entering the US without a PR Card would be fine, but returning and passing through the Canadian border after my trip is my concern. I believe that I cannot get a PRTD while in Canada, even though I will be travelling soon without a PR Card.
I am travelling with a group on a tour, by bus(Beaver bus lines, etc.). I would like to know some of the options I have.

Would it be possible without my pr card? I thought I needed proof of PR of some sort to pass any Canadian border(Air terminals or Land.)
And would those "Beaver Bus Lines" count as a private vehicle?

You can enter the land border in a private car (not bus) with your expired PR card and would also bring proof that you have applied for renewal or your landing document and would bring proof that You'll need your passport on top of that.
