I didn't live long in Canada after I landed. My PR card already expired on 29 Jul 2013. Though I decided to give up my PR status, I need to travel to Toronto for 3 weeks on 21 Aug. I know that I won't have enough time to get a PRTD. Can I take the trip without a valid PR card and consider myself a tourist for a short stay? What might happen in the port of entry?

When your passport is scanned, it will probably flag you up as a PR. At that point, you could expect to be referred to secondary inspection. What happens after that will depend on you and the CBSA agent dealing with you.

Thanks. What if I changed my passport and use a clean one without the immigration visa & landing document?

Your name and date of birth will stay the same.

I think it might work. When a friend of mine used another passport, immigration did not flag him as Canadian citizen despite the name and date of birth were the same.

Only one way to find out... It'll be interesting to see how this works for PPLT
