Travel while new work permit is being issued

I'm on a PGWP and applied for Non-EE PR. I submitted an application to change to a closed work permit based on my Ontario Nomination (employer restricted). My current PGWP expires by the end of April 2025. Based on current processing times, my closed work permit should be approved somewhere around mid March.

I want to travel around mid March for a week (out of Canada). If my closed work permit is approved while I'm away, would I be able to return to Canada with my PGWP? Does my PGWP looses validity once the new work permit is approved? I have a valid TRV.
 
You can travel on implied status. But keep im mind that you lose your status when you leave Canada.


This extended period of work is authorized as per paragraph 186(u) of the IRPR (Immigration and
Refugee Protection Regulations) until a decision is made. If you leave Canada before a decision
is made on your application, you will no longer be authorized to continue working.

But would I still be considered implied status if my current PGWP is still valid?

My PGWP expires in April 2025 and I'm traveling for a week mid-March. My concern is that if the new work permit is approved while I'm abroad, my current PGWP may be invalidated and I may have issues when coming back to Canada.

You are not on maintained status while your PGWP is valid. Maintained status begins when your PGWP expires.
 
I'll change the question.

I have an open work permit. I applied for a closed work permit. If the CWP is approved before the OWP expires, will the OWP still be valid until it's expiry date or will it become invalid at the moment the new CWP is approved?
