Hi! I am new in Canada I arrived July 4, 2010 and working in a private home taking care of elderly client who have stroke. The family are planning to travel to Florida on December and they would like me to bring in Florida to look after his wife. I would like to ask if I am eligible to apply a visitors visa to USA even if I am only 3 months in Canada.

Lots of caregivers had been granted multiple entry visas to the US with the help of their employers. You have a valid reason to go to the US with the family you are with so why not try and apply?

I tried to apply in US embassy, Toronto and I had my interview last November 30, 2010, I was denied for the reason I have not been able to demonstrate sufficiently strong family, social or economic ties to a country outside the U.S. that would compel me to leave the United States after a temporary stay.

The officer ask me the purpose of my trip and I told him that I am travelling with my employer because I am the one looking after my client who is a stroke and wheel chair bound. They ask me how many months I am here in Canada so I said 5 months then he check my passport and then he returned it back to me he said I am not eligible yet I need to establish a strong family or economic ties but the officer did not ask if I have any supporting documents that would compel me to leave in the United States after my temporary stay, so I did not show the documents from my employer because the officer did not ask if I have a relevant documents.

I would like to ask also what visa should I apply for is it B1 or B2. My first application was B1 and now I re apply again I apply for a B2 visa. I have another interview on Jan 5, 2011. Do I need to show to the officer my documents even he is not asking for it?
