Travel to USA without TRV by with renewed study permit

Hey guys! I do have a questions and I am not sure about the answer.
I got my renewed study permit, but I have not applied for my visa yet. Because I am going to go by car to the USA for several days and I know that visa processing time will take quite a lot.
So i found the information here that technically if I am going only to USA and I do have my study permit, so then I am eligible to return to Canada.

(f) to re-enter Canada following a visit solely to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon, if they

• (i) held a study permit or a work permit that was issued before they left Canada on such a visit or were authorized to enter and remain in Canada as a temporary resident, and
  

Anybody know if I can trust it?

Has your visa (TRV) expired or will expire before you return from the US? Are you planning to stay in the US for less than 6-months? Are you going during a weekend or school breaks as an international student?

Yes, my TRV has expired.
I am going to stay for 3 days only.
I am going there during the weekend as an international student.

OK, you should be good. I don't know how soon you plan going, otherwise I would have suggested applying online, it takes 12 days processing times as at today. However, you need to plan that some commercial transport may refuse to board you without a valid visa.
