Travel to US for 1 month would extend my visa?

Hello!
I have a Canadian multiple entry tourist visa valid until 2019, but I have been in Canada for 5 months now.
I got an offer to spend 1 month in the US studying English and would like to know if I can come back to Canada after I spend this time in US. My visa would be renovated on the border or should I apply to an extension before leave Canada? Or there is any other thing I need to do to come back to Canada and be able to stay here for more 6 months?

1. Pointless to apply for an extension, as your visitor status ends when you leave Canada. When you return, it will be up to the CBSA to determine how long to admit your for. If you have already spent 5 months in Canada, you might find that you are admitted for a shorter period than the usual 6 months.

I just called CIC office and they told me to apply for the extension when I am still here and when I get back to Canada I need to show this application in the Border so they can reopen my process and they will give me 2 months to wait for the visa extension answer.
Do you think that makes sense?
