Travel to US by road

Hello - I am an Indian citizen working with a Work Permit in Canada in the Toronto area. I have a business visa (B1/B2) for visiting the US. I generally go to the Boston area. Does anyone know if i can drive to Boston from Toronto and what documents would be needed? Do i need to call the Border Check Post in US (and/or Canada on my way back) in advance to let them know that i will be coming with a rental car?

Here is what i can think:
You don't need to inform them prior to your visit to the United States. There are people who travel to the United States by road from Canada. Make sure you have a valid indian passport, a visa, enough money to fund your visit, Canadian work permit and driving licence (if you drive the car at any point).
