Hello everyone,

Can you please advise how important to obtain Travel records from Home country as supporting documents to RQ ( under Absences from Canada Section )? From your experience, Is a photo copy of a passport ( including all stamps and visas ) enough especially there are other clear proofs of physical presence such as T4 and work letter etc?
Obtaining this documents require doing power of attorney + certification + translation + Etc. It may take very long time. please advice

Many thanks .

It really depends on a case by case basis but in my personal opinion if your home country is not USA and you travel by air you should have entry and exit stamps on your passport which should be more than enough. I have seen people order their CBSA records via ATIP in hand so you can match it with your passport stamps more recommended if you have traveled a lot. Can you explain your situation a bit more?

Thanks for your reply. My home country in not UAS. Actually, all exits and entries to my home country are shown on the passport with dates in English. I don't know what value this document will add. it is just a hectic process.

Have you traveled to your home country a lot in the 4 year period taken into account for citizenship? Did you get an RQ request or the new CIT0529 document which specifies what further documents are required?

We traveled 2 times. I received a Residence Questionnaire CIT 0171 . I have called CIC and I asked this question. they never give you any useful information. they said it is for sure better to provide documents required in the RQ, however, if you don't think you can provide it within the timeframe, then attach an explanation. she didn't give any firm answer if the stamps with dated on passport would be enough.
so guys, do you think if your case is crystal clear and proofs cover the whole period, do you think the Travel Record is still required and the case won't be processed without it? Please share with me your opinions and experiences. Thanks.

Read on another thread that your wife (homemaker) was the recipient of an RQ as well. Did she provide other documents besides minor children's school records to prove physical presence? Was there any discrepancy in her absence record in comparison to CBSA record? Thanks.

No. We filled the form as required and provided only the requested documents. The filled the residency questionnaire accurately. So there shouldn’t be any discrepancy.

Not every country can provide travel records. It really depends on the country in question, there is no rule of thumb.
It's best to request those documents, while already submitting the RQ and other documents. Attach a letter stating that you are still waiting, and, if possible, some sort of proof of your request. I did the same with my OHIP records and it worked fine.

One more question,
Do we need to send original supporting documents or photocopies? I haven't seen the answer anywhere in the form. Please advise.
