TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR VISITORS

My parents are planning a trip to Canada (on visitor visas) from 9th Aug 2019 to 08th February 2020. They both are Indians and currently residing in Delhi, India.

They would like to buy the insurance with cashless facility in-case one of them is admitted in a hospital or has to see a doctor in-case of an emergency.

Should we buy an insurance from India or Canada?

Recommendations will be appreciated.

Cannot answer your question however generally is advised to buy insurance that not only includes emergency medical but also repatriation should the worst happen. Policies bought in Canada often do not cover the latter but just emergency treatment so is a personal choice to keep in mind when looking at the options.

There are a few insurance companies which will give you repatriation benefits depending on the coverage.

And when you say cashless, there's no insurance company which provides cashless facility. If the insurance company is well known and the hospital/clinic has direct billing, it will be cashless. Else it will be pay first and claim later.

I would advise to take insurance from Canadian company, that would be better.
You can buy insurance on your parent's behalf.
Since it would be transition of weather, I highly recommend to buy insurance atleast 1 week before they are expected to travel.
Amount may vary from 25k to 100k, depending on their health, you may judge it better.
Then select your deductible (generally varies from 0 to 3k).

There are few insurance which allow 1/multiple visit to doctors.
However, as per my experience, they cost double than normal insurance.
In case of any visit to doctor, you can always go to nearest Walk In clinic, which generally cost 50-60 per visit including medicines for physician and 100-120 per visit including medicine/tests for specialists on an average.

Now you can calculate & see which one would work for you.
