Hi

I need to travel in emergency outside of Canada for three weeks. I have already done my landing and waiting for the PR card now. It looks like I will not be able to receive my card before I leave Canada.

Does anybody know how much time it takes to get a travel document If I were to apply for it outside of Canada. I know it would be different based on which country you would apply it in, but I was wondering if there is like an average processing time, or somebody who had already applied for it and received it may be able to tell me how long it took to get it.

Also, the other option I was thinking that my friend might be able to DHL me the card once he receives it in Canada, but even that option I discussed with cic agent and he said that its illegal to send a PR card by DHL and it might get sealed if caught by anyway.

Please guide. Thanks.

Can you travel to the United States and take your flight from the US?

If yes, you can drive to the nearest International Airport in the United States, take your flight to there and return.
Then drive/take the bus, on your back to Canada. Through the land, you don't need a PR Card. (A scan copy of the CoPR can be carried, just in case)

If no, then you shall call CIC and see how fast you can take such document (but I doubt, the whole procedure to be under 1 month)
Or, you can issue a visa from the Canadian Embassy from your country. (usually takes up to a month, but you need to check the CIC website)

Hint: If you can't travel to the US, you may try to apply for a US visitor visa. Depends on how busy they are, but you may get the whole thing in two weeks. Once you got approved and you get your passport, you can do the option that I mentioned above :)

Good Luck!
