Hi,

After out PR landing we are planning to return back to USA in 2/3 days without applying for PR card. My husband and I are Indian citizens and our daughter is US citizen.

1. Later when we need to travel to Canada by air, we would need the 'Travel Document'. Do we need to apply for Travel Document in the country (India, USA) we are residing at that time?

2. Does our daughter(with US passport) need the travel document as landed Canadian PR? If needed can we apply for her TD in India?

3. Normally what is the processing time for the 'Travel Document' when applied in India and USA?

Thank you!

Your daughter will not need a PR travel document to fly because she is visa exempt to Canada.

You should apply for the PR travel document in the country you are residing. Contact the embassy to find out about processing times. I have heard that some embassies, I heard Seattle, can do it as fast as in a day while I have heard about some other embassies around the world needing up to 2 weeks.

Hi,

At our first landing we are not applying for PR cards and plan to later return to Canada by applying for the Travel Document. As in the checklist for TD application, we need to provide supporting documents, proving to meeting residency obligation. According to this, we would not have any docs with us other than the COPR documents showing the landing date.

1. We are not applying for PR card because we would not be able to be in Canada for about 4 weeks during our landing. Have to return to USA for work. Do we need to provide a pressing reason while applying for TD as to why we do not have a PR card. In this case, would we not get a travel document?

2. IS TD given only on humanitarian and compassion grounds?

3. What are the possible supporting documents that can be given for TD application?

Appreciate your advise.
Thanks

A TD is for any PR who finds himself outside Canada without a PR card. It is perfectly acceptable that you could not stay long enough during your first visit to get a PR card. They will mainly look at your landing document to see when you became a PR. If you are asking for a TD less than 3 years since you landed, it is not possible that you don't fulfil the residency requirements already so you should not have any problems.
