Hi everyone,

We applied for travel authorization for my mother-in-law and father-in-law. They have valid visitor visas and came to Canada once. We sent all the documents on Nov 3, 2020. 14 business days passed but still no news.

Is there anyone like our case? I want to contact them but I don't know how. Please let me know if you know how to do so.

Thank you all in advance

Based on experiences on this forum, very few people are hearing back within the 14 business days. You may be waiting a few months.

A few months? Wow that's just a lot! It was supposed to be an easy process. I don't know what is taking so long as it is just one form and a few pages of proof!

I just got the approval. But the Approval email contains only my name/Passport Number/UCI number. they did not mention anything about my minor Daughter.

Even though i have mentioned that my Kid will be travelling along with me. Should i consider that email itself would suffice for both of our travel?

I am sorry I don't know, but someone else might help. Maybe wait for a day or two, you might get another email for your daughter. If not you can try to contact them and ask.

When did you apply for the authorization? I am trying to understand their current processing time.

No you would need a separate approval for every person. If you applied for your child she should also get a refusal or approval. To fly she will need an approval letter with her name, passport number and UCI#.

Wow you are lucky. I have been waiting for 23 days and nothing. I hope you receive a letter for your daughter as well.

We got a refusal yesterday saying,
  • you have not established that your reasons for travelling are non-discretionary or non-optional.
I do not understand. We applied for my husband's family and they are the extended family as grandparents. We just wrote visiting family as the purpose of travel. There is nowhere saying they have to justify this reason to be non-optional. I think anyone can apply for this authorization if the travel is non-optional reasons but the immediate and extended family can come with written authorization for any reason.

People who got approval, what did you write for the reason to travel? How did you get approved? It is really important for them to come here for a few months as I need to go back to working and I am studying as well and there is nobody to take care of my son. Please help!

What is your husband's status in Canada? Yours? Like other families you'll need to find a daycare or nanny. His parents aren't legally allowed to travel to Canada to take care of your son because that would be considered working.

I am an international student, he has a work permit and our son is Canadian. They are not going to work or get paid. They will help me temporarily for a few months as I have to work from home and study at the same time. This is my last term at school and I need their support in this tough time until end of april. This is not babysitting it is family support.

Maybe bcoz of their age. Bcoz they might have felt it is risky for elderly people to travel during pandemic esp during winter.

Just to let you know, they are not considering any reason right now.I being spouse of temporary resident of Canada having work permit was refused from exemption, with same reason that you travel is not essential. If they dont consider living with spouse as essential even if its written on ircc website, they can do anything.
Just try to mail them again for exmeption

This isn’t about you or your husband because you are temporary residents so you can’t apply to authorize your in-laws travel. Your need of support is not considered. Your 14 month old son is the citizen & therefore you signed on his behalf. So officers are considering his needs & support. He lives with two parents & is not alone. You say “take care of my son” but this is considered work even if unpaid. From the officer’s perspective, how is their travel considered essential for your son, not you & your spouse?

They aren't PRs.
