And if you want to save some $$$; you can always rent a truck/cargo van from U-Haul, Ryder, Penske, Budget etc. For this, you'll drive the truck yourself, pay rent/day and mileage cost. If you have a helping hand and moving within city/province then this is cost effective choice. But if you're moving out of the province; then you may have to hire long distance moving companies.
When you hire moving company; they will charge by their hour rate ($50~$100/hour). Most times, you can only hire people for minimum 2 hours. It also depends on how many rooms your apartment/house have. But you can always bargain and negotiate. To find local moving companies, try Google, Kijiji, Craiglist or Yellowpages.
FYI, I rented a U-Haul truck last year and moved from Toronto to Sarnia. My friends helped me. I'm actually moving again within Sarnia this month and will be doing same.
