Just getting some documents translated. We don't have anybody local that is a certified translator for my wife's language but there is somebody that does it in Ontario. On the website it says that you need certified true copies of everything and also translations? When we applied for her work permit it was online and from outside of Canada. We just sent a scan of the original marriage certificate and then the certified translation.
From what I understand with a certified true copy we would need to have these copies certified by a notary public or commissioner of oaths, right? If its in another language is that something they can do locally or is it something I'll have to mail somewhere to have done?
I used an ATIO translator last time but he just translated everything from a scanned copy of the marriage certificate when we applied for her work permit. It didn't specify that it needed a certified true copy like it does for the PR application. Now, I'm worried and want to be sure. The bottom of the translation says:
I hereby certify that this is a TRUE AND ACCURATE translation from Ukrainian into English of the enclosed document.
On the CIC website it says:
You must send the following for any document that is not in English or French, unless otherwise stated on your document checklist:
the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation (see below for details); and
a certified copy of the original document.
Get the translation and affidavit for the translation is no problem. I'm just worried about getting certified true copies as these are legal documents from Ukraine. Maybe I just have to call the commissioner of oaths and confirm. I don't want to mail these documents to the translator if he's unable to provide a certified true copy when he can just send me the translation by email.
