Does the translator need to do the certified copy of the original document or do I need to do it? Also, why do I even need to do it, as I will be sending in the original document. It says the following on the website (at the bottom of Step 4):

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...bsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html#Step3

Translation of documents
You must submit the following for any document that is not in English or French, unless otherwise stated on your document checklist:

  • the English or French translation; and
  • an affidavit from the person who completed the translation (if they’re not a certified translator); and
  • a certified copy of the original document.

Obviously, if you are submitting the actual original document there is no need for either of you to also provide a certified true copy. The assumption is that the original is of value and you don't want to surrender it forever to IRCC (with the exception of PCCs for which an original is usually required).

You will not be sending originals of your documents...of course some exceptions like the Police Clearance Certificate.

You should send the original document if specifically requested. Otherwise, it should be copy of the original certified if not in English/French and will need to be with an affidavit from the person who completed the translation. (if they’re not a Canadian certified translator);
