Hi all,

My wife (Japanese citizen) is about to mail me her documents for the PR application. She noticed an issue with the translation of her civil status docs (as done by someone recommended and used by several people on this forum.) The "affadavit" or notarization says:

"This is to certify that (translator) has acknowledged himself in my very presence that the signature on the attached document is his own." (stamped etc by notary.)

So this does not say the translator swore "that the contents of their translation are a true translation and representation of the contents of the original document," as is outlined in the CIC website.

Does this mean these translations are of no use and we need them done again? Thanks

Kevin

Hi,
Update: I guess the translator wrote and signed an affidavit and the notary attested to the authenticity of the translator's signature on the affidavit. We're more hopeful that will suffice. Thoughts?

What does the "attached document" say. It's hard to tell without seeing the totality of the notarization.

Thanks bartjones,

The attached document (one after each of the four translated pages) is an affidavit signed by the translator. There's a 9th page with the notary's words and signature, and the notary stamped every page. Seems good, we think.

Does the translator's affidavit say that the translator swears that the contents of the translation are accurate? As long as you have that somewhere, you should be okay.
