I am having a graduate degree outside Canada and possess work experience in the field of management and Business Analysis. I am applying in a graduate program ( publicly administered university in the ontario region). Duration of this program is 1 year. Right now i am also pursuing an internationally recognized certification related to BUSINESS ANALYSIS ( CBAP).

My queries are:
1) Does a graduate degree obtained in 12 months time period as a full time student , makes me eligible to apply for PR

OR

24 months program is mandatory to apply for PR.

2) If i secure job as a full time worker after i complete my graduate degree in canada( total degree duration 12 months), would i be eligible to apply for PR or a 2 year program of study is a must for transitioning from student visa to PR.

I appreciate prompt reply as on the basis of your replies i may have to rethink regarding 1 year or 2 year graduate programs - DEADLINES ALMOST THERE

Thanks!
Mariah

2 year program(4 semesters) is mandatory to apply for CEC under the graduate stream. However, you can still qualify for CEC under the worker stream if you have 2 years of skilled full-time work experience under the current rules.

Note that there are talks of changing the work experience requirement for workers to 1 year as of Jan. 2013. If that happens, you will be eligible to apply for CEC after you have the work experience.

A 2 year program is better. A one year program would give you a one year open work permit. In some provinces, you could be sponsored under a provincial nominee program by an employer. You may have to work for 6 - 12 months first so it is not a lot of time you have to find the employer, work the set amount of months, convince them to sponsor you and get your PNP nomination before your open work permit expires.

It is a lot safer to take a 2 year course. After the course, you get a 3 year open work permit. With a 2 year course and 1 year of skilled work, you can apply for PR under Canadian experience class and the other 2 years of your open work permit, you can use to stay in Canada while you wait for your PR to get processed which currently takes about 15 months.
