Just like the title says... Has anyone done it before?
According to a page I found on the internet, it has to be done at least 30 days before the permit expires, and there's no guarantee they'll accept it, it might get refused by CIC.
The application doesn't have to be submitted 30 days before - that's just a guideline. However the application does need to reach CIC before your work permit expires. Correct - there is no guarantee of approval.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'd like to have somebody's opinion about the following as well.
I am planning on going back to university in September 2016 with the Winter Intake, I will basically apply as an international students to a few institutions. My Work Permit expires on mid-november and when that happens, I'll have to go back to my home country, apply to those universities from there, wait until August 2016 to come back to Canada as a student. I was thinking of extending my stay in Canada by six months as a tourist, in order to keep on integrating myself within its society and not be forced to go back to Europe and wait for 8 months to come back here. Does anybody think the aforementioned reason would be good enough for an approval?
