I am a F1-student in the US planning to travel for a conference to Switzerland. I have scheduled by Schengen
visa interview for July 2nd and I plan to fly out from the US on July 19th. My current itinerary involves a layover at Montreal which requires me to apply for a transit visa. I will obtain my Schengen visa (assuming everything goes smoothly) only on July 10th.

My plan was to obtain the Canadian transit visa before I go for my Schengen visa interview. But it seems I can't apply for one unless I have my Schengen visa ready. Is there any alternate way rather than rescheduling my journey to avoid transiting through Canada at all?

Thanks!

Does any of this apply to you?

If not, then you have no alternative. You either get a transit visa, which you probably don't have enough time for, or you change your flights.

Or else you apply for a standard visitor visa and use that to transit. You have time for that, but I don't know if you'll qualify.

If I was you, I would just change my flights.
