Transit visa for Canada

I am an Indian citizen with valid stamped H1B on my passport. I would be travelling to Italy with transit in Montreal (onward) and Toronto (return) via Air Canada. Do I need to apply for a Canadian transit visa?

Depends. If your connection waiting time is less than 48 hours then yes, if not you need a TRV.

From CIC:
"If you are a citizen of a country whose nationals need a visa to visit Canada, then you will need a Transit Visa to travel through Canada - even if you are only stopping in Canada to catch a connecting flight to your final destination in another country."
