Hi everyone,

I am an international student currently in my last semester of a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I plan to apply for my Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) by the end of April 2025, but I’m facing a challenge with my eligibility and would really appreciate any advice or guidance.

Here’s my situation:

I started my studies in Canada in 2019 at the International College of Manitoba (ICM), where I completed the foundation program in one semester and progressed to the first year of university. After completing my first year, I transferred to the University of Manitoba for a Bachelor of Arts program. I completed one semester of my second year there and then transferred to Memorial University in Spring 2022 to pursue a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.

When I transferred to Memorial University, I took only two courses during my first semester (Spring 2022). At the time, I didn’t realize that I needed to be a full-time student when transferring institutions to remain eligible for the PGWP. I couldn’t find clear information online in 2022 that explained this requirement.

Recently, I met with an immigration advisor at my university who told me I might not be eligible for the PGWP because I was part-time in my first semester after transferring. After explaining the situation, the advisor suggested that I could still apply for the PGWP, but I would need to include an explanation document to support my case.

I’m feeling very anxious about this and would appreciate any advice on how to navigate this situation. Has anyone faced a similar issue, or does anyone have experience with submitting an explanation document for the PGWP application?

Thank you so much for your help!

All you can do is explain why because you can only be part time the last semester for PGWP eligibility. Did you change DLIs and notify IRCC?
