I have been in Canada for 13 years and have had some interesting jobs, the best being teaching for a year. I was also an electrician in British Columbia for a year. My experience as an electrician in Britain is 6 years at electricity board, ministry of defence and prison service. I also have 10 years experience with electrical contractors. The procedure for applying for an electrician (journeyman electrician) permit in most Canadian provinces involves providing employers signatures. If not available then another option is by way of an affidavit. This is how I gained my BC permit. However, this option is not available in Alberta. My question is how are they going to get trade workers from overseas to go to Alberta if they aren't going to have this option? Lets lobby our MLAs and find out why. The only explanation I have had is there are more restrictions because of the tar sands. But can anyone say why for sure?
