Hi guys,

I am on my PGWP status that will expire on Feb 2025. I applied my parents seperately and will give the situation below.

I applied my mom first, got her approval after 2 months, stampped which the Visa will expire till 2031 (Same year that her passport will expire)

Next, I applied my dad, got his approval after 2 months also, stampped and visa will expire next year, June 2025. But his passport expiry is 2028. Does anyone know why he only got 1 year Visa? Supposedly it should receive a visa same as his passport expiry right?

What do we do on this situation?
Thanks!

It's up to IRCC how long they issue the TRV for.

You will need to apply for a new TRV once this one expires.

It's possible that applying for your parents separately worked against you. Hard to say. But ultimately up to IRCC how long the validity is.

Typically IRCC issues shorter visas because there are concerns that a person doesn’t have strong ties to their home country. Both parents will only receive a maximum visit of 6 months although with a 1 year TRV would suggest a much shorter stay consistent with their TRV application. The 1 year TRV is essentially a trial period.
