A friend of mine came to Canada on a Toursit visa from Australia 5 years ago to spend time with an eldery friend who lost her husband. She didnt intend to overstay but she was reluctant to leave her friend alone as she had no family. Anyway she would have left years ago but she is deadly afraid of being arrested at the airport. What is the procedure for leaving Canada from Toronto? Will she be arrested? Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

No - she won't be arrested. She can just get on a plane and leave.

She can just leave. Hope her passport is still valid. Five years is a long stay to be afraid of the consequences now. She could show up at the airport with her bags and airfare. Officers don't check anyone when leaving, only when they are gaining entry to Canada.
