Both my husband and I have PR. His mother has applied for and gotten her tourist visa. We're looking to apply for a tourist visa for my husband's sister. She 21 and is on the autism spectrum. We'd like for them to be able to visit us as a family but are concerned about the visa process. Does anyone have experience with applying for a tourist visa with a disability? Are there any special accommodations?

Not really? If she depends on your mother-in-law and it's obvious you will be supporting them while in Canada and they will return home together in a timely fashion, you should be good to go.

Not quite as simple as that. Currently she wouldn’t meet the travel restrictions s. She will need to show her own finances to support her and strong ties to show that she will return home. There will be concerns that there is little tying her to her home country and that they will both want to remain in Canada. Does she eork or attend school? Does she have her own finances? Even young adults without disabilities or university students often struggle to secure a TRV. You should certainly try.

Well, the travel restrictions are a separate issue but AFAIK they're not outright refusing applicants simply because they currently can't travel. I would think clear evidence that she financially depends upon her mother and they will travel back home as a family would be satisfactory.

Nothing is evident in a visa application unless you provide an explanation and documents. Some autistic people will be fully employed others will not. Even though the sister is autistic she must meet the same requirements as someone without autism. Unfortunately there are some who have no intention of returning home so you have to provide reasons why the sister will return to her home country. There are also some families who are no longer interested or even able to provide financially for their adult child so that is another thing that will be looked at. You can explain the scenario and the whole situation will be considered. This is also a situation where there may be a fear that the family will apply for H&C because the sister may potentially create issue if the parents want to apply for PGP.

I think The visa offices are not processing the TRV applications unless you are the immediate family of a canadian Citizen or PR. I submitted my application to visit my brother in Canada in April and still waiting for the result.

Siblings are not a priority but may be processed.
